About HKHC

Healthy Kids Healthy Communities Grant County is a partnership between the NM Dept of Health and the Cooperative Extension Service that creates healthy environments and programs to give kids what they need to play well, eat well, learn well, and live healthy and full lives. Because, simply put, healthy eating and physical activity are two lifestyle choices that prevent obesity and subsequent chronic disease.

Teachers, parents, community leaders and policymakers will find information, resources and activities here to help New Mexico’s children grow up healthy.

Together, we can reduce the trend of overweight and obese children by shaping and nurturing our own children’s healthy eating and active living habits, creating and sustaining healthy environments, and promoting positive health policies.

Alicia Edwards, the Coordinator for HKHC Grant County, has spent the last ten years working on ending hunger and poverty in Grant County. As the former Executive Director of The Volunteer Center, she brings a wealth of experience to HKHC regarding how the lack of access to healthy, nutritious food affects the health and well being of low income families. She looks forward to implementing programs and projects that will help families lead active, healthy, vibrant lives and increase their health outcomes now and in the future.
